Documentation / transports

Put the filesystem at the edge you actually have.

A transport changes how a client reaches the same filesystem contract; it does not erase provider limits. These pages separate mount-free protocol evidence from native host mounting.

Transport / kernel-facing Unix mountPreview

FUSE

Mount-free FUSE session and codec evidence plus a revision-specific hosted Linux mount checkpoint exist; callback, native lifecycle, FSKit, cancellation, crash/restart, concurrency, and durability gates remain external.

Transport / network filesystem protocolPreview

NFS

Native macOS NFSv3 plus job-scoped hosted macOS/Linux NFSv3 and Linux NFSv4.1 checkpoints are evidenced; shared v3/v4 session and connection views, rootless reconnect, bounded pipelining, and v4 channel/state knobs pass, while the current workstream remains NO-GO pending full stateful/member, hosted lifecycle, and crash/durability qualification.

Transport / lightweight TCP filesystem protocolExperimental

9P2000.L

Rootless protocol/server, attached Node Duplex, hosted Rust plus N-API Linux lifecycle, and root-gated upstream conformance now pass for the supported scope; macOS is rootless-only, Windows is compile-qualified only, public parity remains partial, and crash/reset/half-close recovery is supervisor-owned rather than a library guarantee.

Transport / Apple extension boundaryPlanned

macOS FSKit

Unsigned SDK/worker checkpoint with a 12-test Rust bridge suite and arm64 build evidence; signing, installation, activation, and real mounts remain pending.

Transport / unmounted servicePreview

HTTP multi-drive API

Loopback service with bearer isolation, ranges, streaming, reopen, and bounded health/readiness probes; a hosted all-features HTTP/OTLP gate now passes, while deployment hardening remains the caller’s job.

Transport / HTTP filesystem protocolPreview

WebDAV

Pinned pure protocol differential, direct N-API streaming, active-lock, method, peer-fault, 256-request network and same-session concurrency, durable-driver syncfs barriers, local macOS mounting, and scoped hosted macOS/Linux native jobs pass; full member parity, restart/durability, provider, and hosted lifecycle gates remain open.

Mount-free is a first-class path.

Loopback, HTTP, and userspace protocol tests can be valuable without kernel privileges. They must still be labeled as protocol evidence, not silently promoted to native mount acceptance.
